After losing a spouse, I can understand why a loving relationship with separate homes could feel safer and more spacious. Their explicit plans for care and emergencies are what made the arrangement feel substantial to me.

I lost my husband three years ago and the idea of merging homes again still feels overwhelming. This post gives me hope that closeness and separate space can coexist when both people choose it clearly.
