- I recognise that hope that one invitation will suddenly change the whole structure. His honest answer about keeping the relationship separate is painful, but at least it gives you something real to decide from.

- I recognise the loop of ordinary intimacy followed by days of silence. The question that helped me was not why the other person kept me around, but whether the arrangement they consistently offered was one I could keep accepting.
