- Avoiding the fertility-clinic conversation by blaming work was unfair because they already suspected the answer. They acknowledge that delay, and finally giving a clear no allowed her to pursue the future she wants.

- Their behaviour may have been hurtful, but the most useful question is whether the relationship they are offering is one you genuinely want. You do not need to condemn them in order to decide it is not enough for you.
