- Five years is a long pattern to interrupt, especially when the other person responds immediately each time contact resumes. One difficult Friday does not erase the decision you made or prevent you from trying again.

- I spent years waiting for someone to decide whether they wanted children, so I understand how costly uncertainty can become. The important difference here is that you eventually gave a definite answer and accepted that she was free to act on it.

- I see this differently from some of the replies. Agreement after repeated pressure would not necessarily resolve the underlying difference. It matters whether she made a genuine choice or simply wanted the conflict to stop.
