- I agree with most of this but I think you're letting yourself off slightly with 'he had known for a while'. He told you it was painful and you kept accepting the arrangement because it suited you. Yes he could leave, but you had information he didn't: you were starting to realise there probably wasn't a later. That's the bit I think belonged to you to say sooner.
